On 9/29/23 , national advocate and Coalition Board member, Dawn Kovacovich, was a special guest of New Jersey Parents of Developmentally Disabled Adults “The Sitdown”, where parent advocates share their views on controversial and important topics. She and her daughter Laura, an individual with severe autism and a dual diagnosis with OCD, were interviewed by Judy Woodruff in September of 2023, and were featured in a segment of the PBS Newshour special report “Disability Re-Framed”. In July of 2023, Dawn took a public stand against the federal government’s one-size-fits-all approach to services for those with I/DD. Entitled, ” Letter Addresses Discrimination Against the Severely Disabled in Federal I/DD Committee”. This 6/27/23 letter made a huge impact- becoming a post that went viral.
