Adaptive Wage Case Study – Instructions
- Select an individual and gain their permission to share personal information, name, and likeness for this data study. No personal information should be shared without a release signed by the individual or guardian.
- Gather information on benefits and services for this individual. All benefits and services will be included in the document, but only the values of benefits obtained or affected by employment will be used to calculate the Adaptive Wage
- SSI/SSDI benefits and earnings limitations
- Medicare/Medicaid benefits and earning limitations
- SNAP benefits
- HUD/Rental assistance benefits
- Residential status/residential supports
- Transportation service and cost, including the number of trips per day
- Any waiver or other services
On Page 1—All information provided refers to a single individual employed by a 14c Certificate Employer. Place entries in the data boxes and place 2 images in the large rectangular boxes at the top of the page as follows: (Some Information May be Pre-Loaded by the Provider and/or be a Shared Process between the Individual, Provider, and Parent/Guardian)
- Click on the Left Photo Box to upload a picture of the individual or leave the “No Photo Available” icon
- In My name is section type in the individuals name or if privacy is requested put “Privacy Preferred.”
- In the Right Blank Photo Box upload the Provider Organization Logo, if desired

- Select the small box next to each benefit and service received; the last blank checkbox can be used to add any additional services received.
- For Community membership/wrap-around services, include any extra details about the individual’s community involvement or the specific services they receive, such as Case Management, Day Habilitation, Special Olympics, and similar programs.
On Page 2—Place Entries in the Data Boxes — Do not type in the Grey Boxes
- In the first column (CIE), please enter the actual or proposed employment details for this individual employed by a community-based employer. A Competitive Integrated Position is characterized by wages exceeding the state minimum, typically excluding DSP Supports and involving reduced or eliminated Administrative Supports to employment. If no staffing supports are provided, select NA. Scheduled hours may differ from the current provider-based position. Social Security Benefits may decrease or cease due to the earnings cap. Report only transportation services furnished directly by the employer.
- In the second column, under not working, enter the SSI/SSDI benefit and select N/A for DSP and Admin support to complete this section.
- Enter the state minimum wage in the third column using the individual’s current weekly This column is intended to show the effects of subsidizing the wage of the existing employment situation to State Minimum. Record changes to Social Security from the earnings cap and update the SSI/SSDI amount. Total monthly income, hourly wage, DSP support, and Admin support will auto-calculate. Also, input rides per day, rides per month, and cost per ride to auto-calculate transportation expenses.
- Enter the current average wage and weekly hours in the fourth column. Add SSI/SSDI amounts to auto-calculate monthly income and hourly wage. Choose levels of DSP and Admin support to auto-calculate support values. Then, input daily rides, monthly rides, and cost per ride to auto-calculate total costs.
- For this document DSP will include all direct support positions involved in employment, i.e., Production Supervisor, Job Coach, 1on1 or small-group support staff, etc. Administrative Supports should include positions such as Benefit Planer, Case Manager, Counselor, etc. for hours utilized in supporting a successful employment experience.
- Use these weekly values when choosing from the Drop Down Menus for DSP and Administrative Supports:

- If the employer provides transportation to and from work. Place the number of trips per day, and trips per month for each employment option. (5-day work weeks generally equate to 20 or 21 work days monthly.)
- The last 3 rows in all columns will auto-calculate.
- 14c providers should enter the average DSP wage in the field labeled “AVG DSP wage,” and the average administrative wage in the field labeled “AVG ADMIN wage.”
